The mission of the PA Medicinal Cannabis Education Tour is to educate health care professionals regarding the basic science underlying the pharmacologic and therapeutic options associated with medical cannabis in patient care, and provide clinical insights on the use of medicinal cannabis in practice. In addition, the PA Medicinal Cannabis Educational Tour will provide authoritative information on Pennsylvania’s laws and regulations relating to approved uses, patient certifications requirements and process, and dispensing regulations and practices when medicinal marijuana is recommended for the approved medical conditions.

Educational content for the PA Medicinal Cannabis Educational Tour is provided by The Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis and Hemp at Thomas Jefferson University.

The Lambert Center is the only comprehensive academic resource for education, research, and practice for the therapeutic use of cannabinoids based in a US Health Sciences University.

Charles V. Pollack, Jr., MD - Associate Provost for Innovation in Education, Director, Jefferson Institute of Emerging Health Professions, Director, The Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis and Hemp, Thomas Jefferson University

From 2001-2015, Dr. Pollack was Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania and served as Chairman of Emergency Medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. From 1992-2001, Dr. Pollack served in various positions in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, an urban, tertiary care teaching hospital affiliated with the Medical College of the University of Arizona and the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He was Research Director from 1994 to 2000, and he chaired the department from 1997 to 2001. From 2000 through mid-2001, Dr. Pollack was also Director of Emergency Medicine at Arizona Heart Hospital. He graduated summa cum laude from Emory University in 1980 with bachelor’s degrees in history and chemistry and with a master’s degree in the history of science and medicine, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Pollack earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine and is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha.

Dr. Pollack leads The Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis and Hemp at Thomas Jefferson University. The Center, which he founded in May 2016, is the only comprehensive academic resource for education, research, and practice around the use of medicinal cannabinoids to be housed in a US health sciences university.

Sara Jane Ward, PhD - Assistant Professor, Center for Substance Abuse Research, Department of Pharmacology, Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Temple University, Senior Fellow, Jefferson Institute of Emerging Health Professions, Thomas Jefferson University

Dr. Sara Jane Ward is an Assistant Professor in the Center for Substance Abuse Research and Department of Pharmacology.  She earned her Ph.D. in neuroscience at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem NC. She conducted her own NIH-funded research under a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Temple University where she began to study the role of cannabinoids in learning and memory and reward processing.  Dr. Ward is currently working on several projects to elucidate the therapeutic potential of non-psychoactive cannabinoids, including studies supported by the National Institutes of Health and Department of Defense investigating the efficacy of Cannabidiol for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain. Other projects in collaboration with TUSM faculty investigate the efficacy of Cannabidiol and synthetic cannabinoids on a range of nervous system targets including stroke, traumatic brain injury, and addiction. Dr. Ward has been a member of the International Cannabinoid Research Society since 2005.
