Evan Nison is the youngest ever Executive Director of NORML New Jersey, and sits on the Board of Directors of Students for Sensible Drug Policy. He also runs a cannabis specific PR firm, NisonCo. In New York he is the Co-Founder and Director of the NY Cannabis Alliance, which has helped craft numerous pieces of cannabis related legislation in New York. In 2010 he moved to California to run the college outreach effort for Prop 19 in California, which spanned over 40 schools. He was President of Ithaca Students for Sensible Drug Policy for 4 years, which was rated the #1 college drug law reform chapter in the country in 2011, and under his leadership passed one of the first college policies in the country that equalized penalties for cannabis and alcohol on campus. Roseanne Scotti is the Senior Director, Resident States and State Director of Drug Policy Alliance’s New Jersey office. Over the past 14 years, she has managed successful advocacy campaigns, including the Compassionate Use Campaign which resulted in the enactment of New Jersey’s medical marijuana law, the New Solutions Campaign that reformed mandatory minimum sentencing and pretrial justice laws, and various harm reduction campaigns to reduce drug overdose deaths and establish syringe access programs in the state. Before joining the Drug Policy Alliance, Scotti was a research coordinator at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Studies of Addiction in the HIV Prevention Research Division. Scotti received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and her J.D. from Temple School of Law.

Jim Thorburn - Founding Partner, Thorburn Walker LLC

Deborah Miran

Former commissioner, Deborah Miran, was a member of the Natalie M. LaPrade Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission from 2013- 2016. While serving on the commission, she was also a member of the executive committee, policy, and research subcommittees, and was chair of the education subcommittee. She was responsible for developing education programs for doctors and patients, and was also an integral part of crafting the current regulations. Prior to the commission she was president and founder of Miran Consulting, Inc. There she advised both brand and generic drug makers on the FDA approval process. Ms. Miran was senior director of regulatory affairs for Alpharma, a generic drug manufacturer, where she directed the submission activities for new and abbreviated new drug applications to the FDA. She has spent over 30 years in the US pharmaceutical industry. Ms. Miran received her bachelor of science in chemistry from Iowa State University.

Jahan Marcu, Ph.D - Chief Scientist, Americans for Safe Access

Jahan serves on multiple expert government, trade association committees, and scientific organizations including AHPA, ACS, AOCS, AOAC, ASA, IACM, IMCPC and others. He is an author of the American Herbal Pharmacopeia Cannabis Monograph. His work has focused on the structure and function of cannabinoid receptors, the anti-cancer properties of cannabis compounds, Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), as well as method development & validation for analyzing complex formulations. Dr. Marcu was the first recipient of the Billy Martin research award from the International Cannabinoid Research Society. Debra Kimless, M.D. - Medical Director, ForwardGro

Graduated magna cum laude from Muhlenberg College with a double major in Natural Sciences and Biology. She was selected to be part of Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She went on to medical school at Rutgers, and residency at Temple University Hospital where she studied and became a clinical practitioner for over 15 years as a boarded Anesthesiologist with a subspecialty certification in Pain Medicine. She shares her knowledge by speaking with physicians to educate them about the endocannabinoid system and to help them to understand how medical cannabis can be an effective tool to help patients. She also consults with patients pro bono to introduce cannabis medicine as a treatment option. She has first-hand experience in successfully treating patients with a variety of medical conditions using an individualized treatment plan. She collects patient data and has presented the case studies at national and international conferences and seminars.

Dr. Bryan Doner - DO, CEO Medical Director & Co-Founder, Compassionate Certification Centers

Dr. Bryan Doner received his undergraduate education at Denison University and completed a graduate program in Medical Sciences at the University of Massachusetts at Boston. He then completed his medical education at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, immediately followed by residency training in Emergency Medicine at Saint Vincent Health System (Erie, PA). In addition to Emergency Medicine, Dr. Doner has undergone extensive, fellowship level training in both Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine.
